چکیده

Descent methods for combinatorial optimization proceed by performing a sequence of local changes on an initial solution which improve each time the value of an objective function until a local optimum is found. Several metaheuristics have been proposed which extend in various ways this scheme and avoid being trapped in local optima. For example, Hansen and Mladenovic have recently proposed the variable neighborhood search method which has not yet been applied to many combinatorial optimization problems. The aim of this paper is to propose an adaptation of this new method to the graph coloring problem. 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Parallel Jobs Scheduling with a Specific Due Date: Asemi-definite Relaxation-based Algorithm

This paper considers a different version of the parallel machines scheduling problem in which the parallel jobs simultaneously requirea pre-specifiedjob-dependent number of machines when being processed. This relaxation departs from one of the classic scheduling assumptions. While the analytical conditions can be easily statedfor some simple models, a graph model approach is required when confli...

An ILS algorithm for the Robust Coloring Problem

This paper studies the Robust Coloring Problem (RCP), a variant of the Minimal Coloring Problem which maintains the number of colors fixed. In this problem, two non-adjacent vertex that have the same color are penalized. The sum of penalties of a coloring is called rigidity level. To solve the RCP, an Iterated Local Search (ILS) algorithm using the Random Variable Neighborhood Descent (RVND) lo...

New algorithms for the Minimum Coloring Cut Problem

The Minimum Coloring Cut Problem is defined as follows: given a connected graph G with colored edges, find an edge cut E′ of G (a minimal set of edges whose removal renders the graph disconnected) such that the number of colors used by the edges in E′ is minimum. In this work, we present two approaches based on Variable Neighborhood Search to solve this problem. Our algorithms are able to find ...

Variable Neighborhood Search for solving Bandwidth Coloring Problem

This paper presents a variable neighborhood search (VNS) algorithm for solving bandwidth coloring problem (BCP) and bandwidth multicoloring problem (BMCP). BCP and BMCP are generalizations of the well known vertex coloring problem and they are of a great interest from both theoretical and practical points of view. Presented VNS combines a shaking procedure which perturbs the colors for an incre...

Solution Methods for a Scheduling Problem with Incompatibility and Precedence Constraints

Consider a project which consists in a set of operations to be performed, assuming the processing time of each operation is at most one time period. In this project, precedence and incompatibility constraints between operations have to be satisfied. The goal is to assign a time period to each operation while minimizing the duration of the whole project and while taking into account all the cons...
